Was Romeo and Juliet Truly in Love?

In William Shakespeare's tragedy," Romeo and Juliet", two teenagers fall in love after meeting with each other at a Capulet party. When talking for about 15 minutes they both decide that the want to marry each other. In the process of being and about to become a married couple, the two must endure lies, death, and heartbreak. But in the end you need to ask yourself, was this true love?

When the play begins Shakespeare spends a long time explaining to the audience that Romeo is unhappy because he can't seem to find a woman that he "loves" and that he can love him. Even though Romeo is head over heels for a woman named Rosaline she has vowed to stay away from men and stay in chaste. But, when Romeo goes to Lord Capulet's party he falls in love again with another girl, Juliet.

They talk for 12 minuets and 8 hours later they are married. It is things like this that define the story of "Romeo and Juliet" by showing how puppy love can lead to bad outcomes.

With all of that said I believe that this was not love from the heart, but love from the eyes. First, Romeo isn't looking for a girl that is intelligent, funny or, light spirited, he is looking for a girl who beautiful. Next, when he goes to the party he sees Juliet and falls in love with her because she is more beautiful than Rosaline. Finally, I believe It wasn't truly love because they didn't have courage to tell the ones that they truly loved...the members of their family.

In conclusion, I believe that in this case their "love" went overboard. And, while puppy love isn't a bad thing, they should have taken way more time to get to know each other. If they did, they would have found out that they have nothing in common. In the end though, they still would have loved each other, because their eyes would have loved each other.
