Throughout the entire short story "The Moustache" by Robert Cormier, the protagonist, Mike, was consecutively understanding, considerate, and patient.

Mike proves his understanding when he kisses his grandmother on the cheek after he says, "I forgive you Meg." Another time he ignores the fact that his grandmother is seeing imaginary blue jays and other smaller birds outside her window are fighting for food to avoid upsetting her. Then he stays out of it when his grandmother tells him to tell the nurse she doesn't want her juice out of understanding for the nurse.

Mike is considerate when he feels all of his guilt complexes because it shows he is acknowledging that he has done something to upset someone whether they realize it or not. Like when he prolongs shaving his mustache compared to when he told his father he would drive safe and then drive almost recklessly.

In the story patience is first discovered in Mike when he is about to protest the chesterfield coat having not even known what that was but prolongs his unease for his grandmothers sake.

All of these examples display his patience, consideration, and understanding but barely scratch the surface of how much of how much he really is using these qualities.
