Magnolia Therapeutic Solution Case Study

Magnolia Therapeutic Solutions in New York are a non profit organization that treated individuals with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is an illness that affects people in different ways. It is an illness that people endure from a tragic event that was too difficult for them to cope with. It has been shown that this illness is common in troops who return from war or combat; it could also affect anyone after any traumatized type of event. The Magnolia organization specialize in psychotherapy with individuals those that suffer from PTSD. They serve individual living in the New York and areas surrounding areas. Because Magnolia Solution is a non-profit organization, they rely on donations, grants, federal or state when an eligible and other type of sources for funding to keep up day-to-day operates. After the tragedy of 9/11, the company was given a one-year grant to assist any individuals who suffered from PTSD. The next year the board of directors went an approved a budget that included a new budget of $2 million dollars. The organization ended falling short of about $ 500,000; because of decision the some grants will continue but did not. This caused the organization to layoffs staff that caused negative effects on the organization that slow progress over the years.

Decision:

The board of directors for the Magnolia Therapeutic Solution voted for a budget without careful consideration of the negative effects. If Georgiana was on the board of directors the vote for this budget would not have been approved without the strengths and weaknesses included in the proposal. When they were given the grant the directors should have known that the grants are not promise. Because the board knew this was the beginning of treating these individual, they would be eligible to receive the grant for a second time, which is how the mishap came about. The things they could have done was create a budget that did not include any additional grant funding since it is a nonprofit organization grants cannot be counted until received. This organization foreseen additional treated for the individual who need treatment for PTSD.

The Cause of the Problem:

The causes of the problems are the rise of individual of PTSD that happen around the 9/11 attack, lack of centers that treated PTSD, and poor financial management at Magnolia because of the assumptions that the proposed budget would be funded by the government with an ailing economy. The terrorist attacks that left many people in shock, depress, and sad were devastating. It is not very much that could have been done to avoid any of the issues brought to America from the enemy lines. The lack of centers that treated PTSD can be only resolve through government funding still something the people cannot do anything about with ailing economy growth. With Magnolia Solution Mary made wrong decision to hire than use temp position of more staff because she was not sure about the next year's budget. The decision to demand more with an ailing economy was premature Georgiana would have taken those things in consideration. The decision on how the upcoming budget was form. Georgiana do believe that Mary is capable of running an organization and meeting the needs of all of the clients who are in her facility, but Georgiana's believe that some things were bad financial decisions on her part. Georgiana's would have wanted to see if her budget for next year was realistic before any plans were in place seeks outside financial assistance if needed. The board should have been made aware of pros and cons of the budget, they should have asked. There were different causes that led to the ultimate problems that Magnolia suffered. It stemmed from the lack of accountability and responsibility of the financial management.

Organizational Infrastructure and Culture:

Organization infrastructure consists of five parts the organization goals, the people, process, structure, and result. The type of effect that the organizational infrastructure and the culture had on the decision was enormous, if Mary could wrote two budgets where she showed what would happen if certain grant came through and how every dime was spend. This plays a big role in Magnolia downfall. The goal and results of this center speaks for itself in recent years. The roles that people played was defined until Mary push the issue of demanding money with a declining economy
