Essay

Jack and Ralph are completely different characters in skills and leadership. Jack was worried only about hunting and killing and wanted to lead and was only bringing the group down, but on the other hand Ralph was naturally picked to be leader and had better leadership skills. Piggy was also a good person to have as a leader because he had a good sense of what to do.

Ralph was the best leader out of all of them he knew to build fires and shelters and keep an eye out for any possible way to get off the island. He tried to get everyone organized and to stay calm. He also gave positive influence saying that they were going to get rescued because his dad was in the navy. Everyone liked him best to start out with because he was the oldest and the best looking.

Jack was the rebel, he thought the most important thing was to go hunting and find food. He shows poor leadership skills when he let the fire go out and missed the chance to be rescued. He split off to his own group to hunt and resorted to violence to survive, he stole piggy's glasses and stole the hunting knife. He had an urge to kill and during the feast after they slaughtered a pig they were celebrating and during the excitement they were reenacting the scene and got too crazy and killed Simon.

I think Piggy would have been a great leader if given the chance, but he was discriminated against because of his size. Piggy was all about reason toward the end of the book he travels with Ralph to Jacks tribe and says " your acting like a bunch of kids." "which is better to have rules and agree or hunt and kill."

Between Jack and Ralph, Ralph definitely is the better leader with better morals. Jack was selfish and and self-centered. Piggy only wanted reason and Jack's tribe dropped a rock on his head.
