Lord of The Flies was written in 1954 by William Golding. It is about a group of young boys from Britain whose plane crashes on a deserted tropical island. Two of the boys, Ralph, and Piggy, discover a conch shell on the beach. Piggy thinks it could be used as a horn to bring the other boys to a meeting. Once they are all together, the boys decide to elect a leader and think of a way to be rescued. They choose Ralph as their leader, and Ralph chooses Jack to be in charge of the boys who will hunt food for the entire group. Ralph, Jack, and Simon, set off to explore the island.

When they get back, Ralph decides that they need to make a signal fire to get the attention of passing ships. The boys light some dead wood by using sunlight through the lenses of Piggy's glasses. After a while on the island some of the little kids tell stories of a creature or a monster that lives on the island so some of the boys get a hunting group to search for the monster. Some of the boys get angry at Ralph so Jack breaks off and forms a new tribe. Jack makes himself the leader of the new tribe and organizes a hunt and a slaughter of a sow to celebrate the occasion. The hunters then cut the head off of the sow and put its head on a sharp stake in the jungle as an offering to the beast. Later, finding the bloody, fly-covered head, Simon imagines it as The Lord Of The Flies. He says it is not a beast but it is something that exists in all the boys. As Simon is leaving the jungle the group of wild boys attack and kill him.

The next morning, Ralph and Piggy get attacked by Jack's hunters and they steal Piggy's glasses. In the battle Roger, rolls a rock down the mountain, killing Piggy and breaking the conch shell. Ralph barely managed to escape. He went and hid from them for the rest of the night and the next day. When they did not find him, they light the forest on fire trying to smoke him out. He stayed in the forest, where he found and destroyed the sow's head, but eventually, he is smoked out onto the beach. Ralph collapsed in being
