B. Statement of Purpose:

With this proposal I want to prove how Industrial Hemp could be cost effective and more efficient than other products, like oil based and petroleum derived ones; and how world economies could benefit from it’s cultivation and processing, including Puerto Rico.

C. Definitions:

1. Hemp:

a. Cannabis

b. The tough, coarse fiber of the cannabis plant, used to make cordage

i. Any of various plants similar to cannabis, especially one yielding a similar fiber.

ii. The fiber of such a plant.

Common name for a tall annual herb (Cannabis sativa) of the family Cannabinaceae, native to Asia but now widespread because of its formerly large-scale cultivation for the bast fiber (also called hemp) and for the drugs it yields.

Hemp is the name most used when this annual plant is grown for non-drug purposes. These include the industrial purposes for which cultivation licenses may be issued in the European Union (EU). When grown for industrial purposes hemp is called, often, industrial hemp, and a common product is fiber for use in a variety of different ways.

2. Industrial Hemp:

a. Is a number of varieties of Cannabis sativa that are intended for agricultural and industrial purposes.

They are grown for their seed and fiber content as well as the resulting byproducts such as oil, seed cake, fuel, fiber, etc.
