Hurricane response plan is needed at any and all facilities who house patients, clients or any type of residents. When a plan is in gear then that lessens the chances of more fatalities. Everyone has a job or a skill that will be placed in the right department to make sure that everyone runs cohesive. We want to avoid mass casualties, fatalities, property loss and unnecessary search and rescue. The occurrence can result in damage from the water, wind utility failures, personal injury, and other incidents that could reach catastrophic depending on the intensity of the storm, Respondents must be ready to move rapidly and have order in doing so.

Objective

This Hurricane response plan will serve as a living document and should be reviewed and updated every year. Once a major storm has dissipated the response should be reviewed to insure that any and all precautions were met. Before hurricane season begin it is good to have a review team in place for weekly meetings to follow and access the response plan.

Best times for review of response plan:

* Hurricane season begins,

* Hurricane watch is issued,

* Hurricane warning is issued,

* during a hurricane,

* after a hurricane.

Our company Maxwell Hurricane Preparedness and Response Consultant firm, has formulated a plan to accommodate the New Saint Leo Hospital. This plan will consist of preparation and mitigation before and after a tropical storm or hurricane.

Saint Leo Department of Emergency Management will conduct planning sessions before and after hurricane systems. Our company will be on call as needed before and after any storm that take place in Florida. We will evaluate other storms in surrounding areas so we can always have a better idea on all aspects of work.

We have divided all 10 floors into sub groups, and extensive training is done every six months. All department directors will train their employees and assign them a group. There should be a substitute already assign in case of directors absence. The physicians have their own group and understand what is required of them in the time of a hurricane or natural disaster. Copies of assignments should be provided to the vice president

There will always be a list posted on the emergency board of the functions which each team should be and will be performing.

PLANNINNG

We are located in the most dangerous area for Hurricane disasters, St. Leo Fl. From past hurricanes we must be ready at all times for disaster. Between the years 2000-2009 there has been 55 hurricanes and storms to effect the southern Florida area, most storms occurring during September and October. Majority of these storms have reached a category 3. These types of tropical cyclones are considered major. These mostly start in the Atlantic Ocean or Eastern. These storms have been known to destroy an entire community especially those constructed of wood and manufactured homes. Mobile home communities are usually destroyed. Trees as well as unstable structures have been known to get blown into other areas of town. Power outages are a big factor during these hurricanes so there is a need for generators and to make sure they're powered up.

Our plan is geared to be ready for 4000 people, approximately 1000 patients, 2000 employees and 200 other staff members. Although the path is unpredictable there is a warning by the National weather association 48 hours in advance on the approaching conditions, which is usually 700 miles away.

The hospital chief will be the first to be notifies of the hurricane and its progress towards our city of Saint Leo Florida. Once the status is known to be a hurricane watch employees listed to work will be notifies. At this time we need for all employees who are to come to work to be prepared for the upcoming warning. These employees need to be equipped with a change of clothes, blankets, snacks, their personal medication
