Analyze the use of databases in a healthcare organization. (Or accounting dept.)

Databases can be used in a healthcare organization in variety of places. Some of the examples are listed below:

1. Patients Database :

This database should contain patient details like personal details, treatment details, patient inquiry, medical investigation reports database, patient visits details, insurance processing etc.

Also, Patient information systems can be designed to make it easier for the patients to find out information regarding the organization, availability of the doctors etc.

2. Employee database :

Like any other organization, a health care organization can also make use of employee databases to record employee personal details, expertise, Human resource data, attendance records etc.

3. Finance and Accounting department:

Billing details, Salary record of employees, billing rate database for different services, Supplies payment details

4. Medical supplies department:

Supplies inventory database, Suppliers database, purchasing information database etc.

5. Overall Management information system:

Integration of all the databases mentioned above to generate reports providing insights about the organization from different perspectives.

Include what database applications are used (Microsoft Access, DB2, Oracle, etc.).

Any database management system application can be used depending on the size of the organization, cost constraints, integration with the existing technological infrastructure etc. For example; a large healthcare organization with presence in multiple cities and / or countries may adopt a complete ERP system or Oracle based database management system; whereas a small health care organization with limited presence may only use a simple database designed in Microsoft Access.
