BOOK REPORT

The Red Dragon by Thomas Harris

Will Graham retired after arresting Hannibal Lecter but the FBI needs his help again to catch an other serial killer. This killer got the nickname the "Tooth Fairy", he kills entire families at once and afterwards he covers their eyes with bits of a shattered mirror. Graham needs advice of doctor Lecter to catch the Tooth Fairy but he only gives little bits of information that doesn't really helps Graham. Hannibal Lecter knows much more then he's telling, he's communicating in code with the Tooth Fairy. Eventually the fairy gets information of doctor Lecter, he gets the where about of Graham and his family. In the end Graham and the fairy start fighting and the fairy dies.

Will Graham: he is a very special person, he can get in a mind state of a psychopath. That's how he discovers their motives and their pain. Graham isn't really described but in the movie he's an average aged blond male.

Francis Dolarhyde ( the Tooth Fairy): he is a very troubled and with drown man. His grandmother abused him during his childhood. Dolarhyde has a big scar on his lip and is pretty strong build. He has a big and overwhelming tattoo of a dragon on the back of his body.

a) The story takes place in different states of America. This not an old story so I think it's set in 1990 until 2000.

b) The society is not different than any other society in America or west-Europe but the killer creates classes on his own when he's killing people. He thinks that he's on the top of the food chain and the families he kills are under him.

The book doesn't really has a message it's just a good and interesting plot.

The reader of this book has to be a little intelligent to understand everything. Everyone understands the plot but how the plot is build or unfolded is more interesting.

Someone who's interested in psychology has to read this book because the serial killers in the story can really relate to serial killers in reality.

I think the story is excellent but the way it is written is just boring. Harris describes a small thing in detail. I think the reader would get very soon agitated.
