Many people in the past used to think that illness came from bad spirits or that their god where mad at them. Now we know that it is caused by person to person, environment, animal bite, contaminated objects, and food that people eat. Over the past century people have come up with more cures ,vaccines, and technology to help the medical field. Many doctors and normal people have helped the medical world. There were many disease back then that killed many people but now it is nothing. Now noninfectious diseases have gone up from the 1900 and kills more people. From the 1900's the death count has gone down this is because of technology and people how discover medicine, vaccines, and much more.

There where a lot of people who helped the medical field in their findings. One person who did was Edward Jenner. He was a English doctor who founded the vaccine for smallpox. He used a sore of a person with cowpox a mild but similar disorder and ejected a person with it and discovered a vaccine but he didn't now why. One of the earliest people to help was Florence Nightingale, she was a English nurse from 1854 who cared for soldiers she insisted that the hospitals would be kept clean this saved a lot of soldiers lives, but she was a woman so she was not that important in those days. Alexander Fleming was another doctor who grew bacteria in laboratory plates. One day, he left the window open and one of the laboratory plates too, and a fungus got in an landed on the plate. When he came back he found out that the fungus killed the bacteria the fungus was called penicillin and became the first antibiotic.

There was much of technology that helped the medical field. One for example is the mechanical heart, with the mechanical heart doctors can do surgery with your heart with out having to do it in 5or 4 minutes .They can now take all the time they need and not over look any thing. A other is the endoscope this is used for look inside people. This is helpful so doctors now what is wrong with people and they can fix it quicker. Another thing that helped the medical field was the x-ray. The x-ray is helpful because can look at your bone with out operation, it can tell if your bones broken or sprained and so people don't get the wrong thing.

The over all the change in deaths in United States from 1900 to today is 390 deaths
