Question: How technology has changed communication in your country over the past 20 years?

Technology has made a big difference to the communication in China over past twenty years. As the development of technology continues, the ways of communication have become more and more abundant. Also, keeping in touch with others has become more convenient. I think technology will continue influencing the communication in the future in China.

Firstly, technology gives birth to many new ways of communication. Many years ago, communication technology in China was very behindhand. In 1978, the popularizing rate of phone in China was just 0.43%. In the mid of 1980s, the Chinese government has carried through reform and they began to build up communications engineering. Thanks to the reform, many people were able to use telephones. Not only telephone traffic has developed quickly, Internet also got development.Because of the development of technology, the Internet turned up in China in the late twentieth century. At that time, Internet was like a luxury and few people could use it. However, as time went by, the Internet is now common due to advanced technology. And then, emails, QQ have become more and more popular in the twenty-first century. Until today, there is a lot of software which is used to chat appearing just like Wechat, MSN and so on. Also, social network sites are used for communication like Facebook and Twitter. In modern times, these successes should be attributed to technology.

Secondly, technology has made communication more efficient. In ancient times, pigeons were used to deliver letters. Later, the post office used bicycles or cars. However, it was very slow.But now, we can inform others instantly. When some chatting software come up, we can send a message to others quickly. First off, we can only chat by typing words. Today, we can even use voice to send messages.

Another benefit is that because of technology, communication won’t be limited by weather anymore. Many years ago when we used mails to transmit information, if the weather was bad, the letter might not arrive. But today, if we use QQ or MSN, it won’t be limited by weather condition anymore. So, the development of technology also makes communication more efficient.
