Song Interpretation

The song I chose for this paper is Ice Box by Omarion ft. Timbaland. He is a 23-year-old male born Omari Grandberry in Los Angeles California. The Genre of this song is R&B and the Idiom is Soul.

To be completely honest I don't understand a lot of the instruments used in this song because Timbaland (the producer of the song) uses Hip-Hop drum instruments and beat-making machines to make his beats. The one I do recognize which stands out to me the most is the piano which plays throughout the whole song; mainly during the beginning of the song, each verse, and plays in the background of the chorus. The piano was used to bring out the beat more and to show more emotion in then song. For some reason when I hear the piano it tells me to open my ears more and listen to the lyrics of the song because he's letting out a lot of emotion in his words. This is especially true in the beginning of the song. That is one main reason why I listened to the song the first time I heard it. The first thing you hear once you press play is the piano. When I heard that it immediately caught my attention and once Omarion started singing I was already hooked. The reason I picked this song to do this project was because this song has very deep lyrics and it reminds me of those times when me and my girlfriend weren't doing to well. The song is basically about a guy that constantly fights with his girlfriend and she turned out to be a whole different person from when they first met. For example, in the first verse he says:

Fussin' and fightin', we back at it again

I know that, its my fault, but you don't understand

I got memories, this is crazy

You ain't nothing like the girl I used to know

Good with ma, good with pa, cool with all my (n-word)

I should try to decide, want to

let u in, but no

That means memories, and It's crazy

You ain't nothing like the girl I used to know

Here he explains how they were always fighting and he blames himself because he can't let go the fact that she was a much better person before and now she has changed completely. She gets along with both his parents and his best friends and he tells himself maybe he should try it again but he has that thought in his mind that he can't deal with the fact that she has changed. This is very similar to what me and my girlfriend went through. She is a different person from the first time I met her. We're going on 3 years now and I'm sure I have changed since then also. The recent times

where we had bad arguments or we had decided not to talk to each other for a couple of days, this song made me realize that I'm not the only person going through this kind of problem and that many people can relate to me.

The term "Ice Box" refers to a cold spot left in his heart after all these things happened to him. He sings:

Girl I really want to

work this
