In our society today abortion is a procedure no one pays any attention to anymore. Abortion has become second nature to the many woman of this world, that the mere mention of it is common to us as a whole. Abortion can cause many problems for both the women and the world as a whole. People do not seem to look at this issue in the big picture, and just shove it off as if this issue is nothing at all. For many years people have been battling back and forth whether to allow abortions or not, and the pro-choice finally won out. Abortion can be functional for many different reasons, and in this paper we will discuss a few of the reasons.

Pro-choice have many valid reasons for their stance on the issue at hand. One of the major points is; it is the woman's right to choose since it is her body. This argument won the fight on abortion in 1973. Many women believe that if a baby is not wanted or can not be supported, it is in the mother and child's best interest to abort him or her while one still can. Many people see this as functional, also many people see killing a child functional for if there are too many girls in a family, as in some other countries. Murder of a child is perfectly functional for the people having it done, but to the pro-life group they see this as immoral and a form of murder. The pro-life see this as a horrible act to have done to an innocent unborn baby. This living being has no say in the matter and is treated like it does not exist. Pro-life believe the only functional way to go about this is to have the child, then perhaps give him or her up for adoption. Pro-life believe one should at least give the child a chance to live. The way one group views something functional is not always functional for the next group.

Life to pro-choice people does not begin until one is out of the womb and breathing on his or her own. One would think this is the only way pro-choice people could view life, due to the fact of having abortions. Pro-choice also believes that if a child has a handicap one should abort the baby to save on pain and heartache on the family and child. Parents in this day in age do not want the responsibility of a mentally handicapped child, and get abortions to get from under this burden. One sees this option as functional for him or her and chooses the easy way out. The parent should not be allowed to kill the innocent child who has done nothing to deserve this horrific fate. Does one even know how this procedure is done? Let's take a look at how the doctor's perform this murderous procedure. The doctor will come in and inject an acid of some form into the baby, and then this burns the baby. Next the doctor will proceed to take a vacuum and suck the baby out of the womb, throwing it in the trash can like a piece of garbage. This process is a horrible one and should not be practiced. Thanks to the Roe v. Wade case abortion is now legal in the United States (Henslin, 16). Now all who view abortions as functional for society and their own families can legally receive them. Before 1973 if one wanted an abortion it was done secretly and not always
