Kids Farming These Days, Unheard Of

Summer vacations are ruining children's education. Students continue to forget what they learn. We are still 19th century. The whole reason for the two month summer break was for the children of the house to help out with the family farming. Year-round schools are a good idea because they provide a longer learning environment. The breaks are shorter and closer together and kids have a longer time to study art & extracurricular classes and sports.

Year round schools are not going to kill the students. "Japanese students attend school 243 days a year, United Kingdom attends 192 days, and the U.S. attends 180 days" (Kyle 2). "The science test scores for Japan are 51.9 percent, for United Kingdom it is 69.5 percent and for the U.s. It is 37.7 percent" (Kyle 2). "Elain Warrick-Harris, an Elementary School Principal said that, les students have to repeat grades because of the continuity of instruction and remedial reviews offered during breaks" (Kyle 1). "In 1995, year-round schools out performed nine month schools by eighty four percent" (Kyle 1). "Students that go to a year-round school till 12th grade get four extra years of learning compared to students that go to a nine month school" (Kyle 2).

With shorter breaks students will not forget as much as they would in two months. "Teachers say that students can get back on track within a couple of days, giving them more time to do new and fun things" (Kyle 1). "A stay-at-home mom parent said that she loves year-round schools, because they have three week breaks every nine weeks or so" (Love it or hate it 1). "Teachers say that the breaks they have every so often in the school year are better than one long vacation, because they get better airline rates and less of a crowd" (Kyle 2). "During the breaks that the year-round schools have, the teachers have more time to make their lesson plans for the upcoming weeks" (Kyle 2). "With so many little breaks during the year students have been coming to school more, making better attendance" (Kyle 2).

Year-round schools have more choices for sports and A&E classes. "If students do not speak well English or the language that the school speaks, the year long helps them keep them talking the language consistently" (Ballinger 2).
