Just Like Heaven

Elizabeth Masterson (Reese Witherspoon) is a work-alcoholic San Francisco doctor with no time for a life and David Abbott is a grieving widow. One fateful night will change both of their lives forever. Dr. Masterson's older sister, has set her up on yet another blind dinner date at her house and has ordered her younger sister to join. Running late and excited about a recent promotion, Elizabeth doesn't see the semi-truck coming at her head on before its too late. David Abbott (Mark Ruffalo) has decided to rent out the cozy apartment with the comfortable couch as a place to drink himself numb because of his wife's death two years ago. One night, after being quite intoxicated he is shocked to see a woman yelling at him to get out of her apartment. It turns out to be Elizabeth, who doesn't believe she is dead, even though no one else can see her but him and she cannot

psychically pick anything up. With the help of an psychic bookseller who has the gift of reading aura's, David finds that Elizabeth isn't dead, she is too alive a spirit to be dead. With the help of clues in her apartment and Elizabeth's shaky memory he learns that she really isn't dead, but in a coma from her accident and has some unfinished business that has enabled her to stay on Earth. Now, he is a race against time and the hospital to stop them from pulling her plug and killing the woman he loves. Loved is well defined in this movie as something people take for granted or search for true love their entire life but never really find it. Just Like Heaven is a movie solely based on love and shows us by David out to help Elizabeth even though he is still grieving over his wife's death, Elizabeth, whom has never had a real date in her life falls for the man who is helping her prolong her life, and most importantly Mark Ruffalo is put to the test when he has to get to the hospital to save the woman he barely knows but has very strong feelings for but he is really put to a major test when she awakes from her coma but has no idea who he is but he then goes out of his way to confess his love for her.

Throughout this movie love is really put to the test by David helping a woman he barely knows take care of her unfinished business before she is taken off of life support. He is very much grieving over his wife's death but he decides to take a turn and make something of his life by helping Elizabeth since she needs him more than ever. David knows that his wife is gone and won't be back to be with him and he finds that his love for his wife can never be replaced but he might be able to love again. He finds the love that he has been longing for in Elizabeth. At first David doesn't want to help her but he then realizes that he is her only hope to try to figure out who she really is and where her body is since she is nothing more than a spirit. In the first couple scenes we see that Elizabeth has never experienced love before and she works all the time, it is very surprising that she has found her true love by being faced with death but placed in a coma to help her figure out her life and try to find her real soul mate. Elizabeth's life changed so suddenly and she is getting that second chance to find someone she really loves but it was awful that she had to experience her first love while she is just a spirit.

David helps Elizabeth try to figure out who is and where is came from but she has no memory of what happened to her until a man in a restaurant she and David are passing by falls onto the floor and then she realizes that she was a doctor because she had the instinct to help. At the hospital it is very romantic when David and Elizabeth find her body but it is also very sad because she cannot wake up. David grasps the hand of Elizabeth's body and her spirit can actually feel the tingles so that shows they were connected by love from the beginning. This is the point when David really starts feeling his love for her and she feels the same for him. It is very ironic through the entire movie that they were right in front of each other but had no idea that they were actually soul mates until they went to the hospital and felt the chemistry. It's almost like true
