Trust in psychology helping

Definition

Trust is important in helping and forms the basis of practically any relationship. Trust helps foster a strong bond between the helper and the helpee. This again helps encourage openness in the consultations. Being trustworthy also helps create a sense of security for as the other person is quite comfortable given any personal information. Some one who is trustworthy commands immense respect from anyone and this will also mean that what you say will be most likely be accepted by the person there for consultation. Trust is one thing that cannot be regained easily once lost so it is importance that it is rightfully kept sacred in helping

In psychology the degree to which one party trusts another is a measure of belief in the honesty, fairness, or benevolence of another party. The term "confidence" is more appropriate for a belief in the competence of the other party. Based on the most recent research, a failure in trust may be forgiven more easily if it is interpreted as a failure of competence rather than a lack of benevolence or honesty. Trust is integral to the idea of social influence: it is easier to influence or persuade someone who is trusting. The notion of trust is increasingly adopted to predict acceptance of behaviors by others. However, once again perception of honesty, competence and value similarity (slightly similar to benevolence) are essential. There are three different forms of trust. Trust is being vulnerable to someone even when they are trustworthy; trustworthiness is the characteristics or behaviors of one person that inspire positive expectations in another person, and trust propensity being able to rely on people. Once trust is lost, by obvious violation of one of these three determinants, it is very hard to regain. Thus there is clear asymmetry in the building versus destruction of trust. Hence being and acting trustworthy should be considered the only sure way to maintain a trust level.
