India is located in the southeastern part of Asia around the Indian subcontinent, it is bordering the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, between Burma and Pakistan. It is bordered by six countries: Pakistan in the northwest, Nepal in the northeast, Bhutan in the far northeast, Bangladesh in the East, Burma in the southeast, Myanmar and, China to the north. The exact coordinates are 20 00North and 77 00East.

The total area is 3,287,590 square km, roughly about 1/3 the size of the United States. India is the 7th largest country in world (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_area). It contains 7,000km of coastland.

In general the geography of India varies greatly. There are mountain ranges covered with snow, such as the Himalayas, hills, plains, plateaus and more commonly known, deserts.

The climate of India can be summed up as tropical monsoon in the south to temperate in the north. For a more detailed effect however it can be described as tropical monsoon which doesnÐ''t drop below 18Ð'oC, tropical monsoon rainforest with a rainy season from May- November and a dry season from December-March. The tropical wet and dry climate has very hot summers with a rainy season from the months of June- September. Dry climatic group has three sub-divisions. A dry climatic group simply means that the rate of evaporation is higher than the rate of moisture received through rain. The three divisions are tropical semi-arid steppe along the Tropic of Cancer, Tropical and sub-tropical desert which includes most of Rajasthan, and tropical and sub-tropical steppe this runs east through from Punjab and Haryana to Kathiawar. The final two are the humid sub-tropical climate and mountain climate.

Meteorologists divide the year into four main seasons for most of the country: monsoon, summer, winter and withdrawal of the monsoons. Parts of India that lie in the Himalayan region see five seasons: spring, summer, monsoons, autumn and winter. Summer tends to last from March until June. Winter starts in November for Northern India and December in Southern India.
