In UK, an increasing number of people realize that they should develop friendly business to sustain natural resources and environment. Therefore, most British companies prefer to practice to do friendly or “green” business rather than traditional business. It, however, will bring some negative influence. This essay will focus on supply chains and retailers’ sustainable development to introduce some examples about friendly business in the UK simply. After that, this essay will analyze the advantages and disadvantages about it.

On the one hand, people said that development in retailers causes environmental problems. It means that lots of industrial retailers’ growth endanger natural resources and global environment increasingly. Although, human find that many high-tech products are used to do friendly business, there are many new problems about environment will appear, especially in supply chains with the development of technology. It has to be admitted that lots of companies which make friendly business will ignore the impact of environment of supply chains. Facts were proved(citation) that the logistics and transport are the main reason that leads to the greenhouse gases emission such like carbon dioxide. To an extent, if a company cannot reduce the pollution in supply chains, they are not doing friendly business. However, if people want to make supply chains sustainable development,(part of speech) they have to spend more money to solve problems. There are some arguments to support of the view. The clean fuel, for instance, is more expensive than ordinary gasoline or diesel. Using the clean fuel in supply chains for long term will cost large amounts of money in company. According to Enarsson (1998), Murphy and Herberling (1994), it is difficult to demarcate what is supply chains sustainable development and how to make it. (How does this evidence relate back to clean fuel?)

On the other hand, some people have a totally different viewpoint about friendly business. They think it not only plays an increasingly important role but also benefits in UK. For first reason is that friendly business is a good way to protect environment. According to Jones (2005), some retailer companies change consumption patterns in raw material usage and recycling are good ways to develop friendly business. For example, John Lewis formulated and implemented a sustainable timber development policy. The wooden of sources they used are from the least negative for environment areas during their business process. Therefore, this policy will reduce the phenomenon that the timber was illegally felled. Besides that, the retail industry produces a lot of packaging, this phenomenon immediately impacts on wasting of resources, and it may also give a rise to plastic pollution. Most of retailer companies focus on the recycling policy in order to solve these problems. To take an example, in Next's stores and warehouses 30 percent of waste was recycled in 2003, and 60 percent was recycled in Tesco (Jones 2005), they reduce the rate of waste. (clarity) To sum up the most effective solution is recycling. Therefore, it has to be undisputed that the recycling program is beneficial for environment and developing green business.

In addition, there are other strong argument (plurals) support the friendly business is benefit. Supporter might believe that most of friendly retailers in UK will provide more employment opportunities. Firstly, they may further argue that it is a major contribution to the economy. There are lots of companies which
