The Climate Change

In the past few years we have noticed that the climate is changing. In fact, it changes rapidly. It is generally believed that the Earth will be much more crowed in the next decades. Therefore the activities of these people will affect the climate. In the past the ice ages ruled around the globe but since the Industrial revolution the climate is getting warmer and warmer. The climate change has many effects on our lives. We all notice them, they are called Natural disasters (hurricanes, floods, etc.)

The El Niсo

The El Nino events are caused due to the high temperatures that occur in large areas of the ocean surface. They usually occur on Christmas time and are known to cause disastrous effects on the fishing industry.* El Nino events are thought to have many indirect effects as well. In the year 1982-1983 the second most devastating El Nino event for the 20th century occurred. At that year there have been many floods and droughts all around the globe which are believed to have a strong connection with the El Nino event.

Those events on their turn brought many forest fires, which brought thick smoke clouds which traveled all around the world and their effects are still noticeable today.

* El Niсo events cause devastating effects on fishing industry due to the fact that the warm waters from the top of the ocean prevent the nutrients from the lower cold water levels of the ocean to reach the top and fish require those nutrients in order to survive.

The Global Warming

The global warming problem is not directly linked with human actions. The global warming always existed -not as a problem though. Since the industrial revolution human activities like factories, means of transport, as well as deforestation etc. have helped into an outstanding increase of the quantity and of the variety of gases into the atmosphere. Especially the carbon dioxide which is produced by most of human's activities (means of transport, most factories and more). Every day the carbon dioxide produced by human activities adds up its self to the carbon dioxide that already exists into the atmosphere and will be there for many years. The carbon dioxide acts as a blanket therefore the global temperature is increased. As a result of that the amount of water vapour in the atmosphere increases offering even higher temperatures. It is estimated that the global average climate will be about 3 Celsius more in the next century. This 3 Celsius increase refers to the global climate. Daily there are much more noticeable differences from day to night but this global change will cause many floods and droughts to most if not all the continents. The most devastating of them so far are considered to be the temperature rise, the sea level rise and the droughts and floods. Of course there will be more effects maybe minor but they will all affect a part of our lives. The adaptation of these changes would be almost certain and easy if the pace of change was not that fast.

The Greenhouse effect

The Greenhouse effect is caused by water vapour, carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. All these gases existed in the atmosphere long before human actions took place and the production of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases started. Like in a small greenhouse, radiation from the sun passes through the glass and reaches the plants. The radiation that the plants emit is absorbed by the greenhouse glass that emits some radiation back to the plants again. That's one way of transferring radiation. Another way is convection. In convection less dense warm air move upwards and more dense cold air move lower. One cause of this phenomenon is the use of electric heaters in the home. These devices
