Topic Sentence:

Every year, young people in the United States fall victim to crimes at public schools. Many of these incidents involve violence. Due to an increase in violence, many public schools are turning to security measures such as surveillance cameras.

What are they?

Surveillance cameras are installed in public schools in order to reduce violence, ensure safety and improve student’s behaviour.

Explanation of How/Why:

 The fact that there will be administrators monitoring the cameras and the school, and technicians adjusting the cameras is itself likely to diminish crime in the short run. Cameras also provide security in hidden areas of schools that are physically difficult to monitor.

 The national fear of crime levels is much lower and has been declining with the help of surveillance cameras. Using these cameras make students and staff feel safer knowing that potential perpetrators will be scared off by the presence of cameras before committing an offense. As schools have become a safer place, there has been a percentage decrease in students being absent from school sue to fear of violence.

 Using video surveillance claim better behavior because of monitoring. Sometimes just the idea in student’s minds that there's a camera recording them keeps them from causing trouble or being difficult. Cameras certainly multiply security’s eyes, helping the administration to apprehend and discipline students caught on camera.

 Some public schools view cameras as having dual purpose. Many school buses are being equipped with cameras to randomly monitor student behavior and driver performance.

Topic Sentence: The surveillance cameras in shopping malls, streets and public parks can be driven by motion sensors to automatically focus on citizens’ movement, or be under the control of observers who view the activities from a remote site, with those being observed completely unaware that they are being tracked. Cameras are capable of zooming in on them to even know what they are carrying in hand.

Surveillance cameras are installed in these places to prevent crime, renew public confidence, save enormous time spend in the court and give assistance to police in evaluating a situation.

Explanation of How/ Why:

 Crime prevention, the deterrent effect of knowing that there is observation, the alerting of police at an early stage to stop dangerous situations.

 The cameras provide operational assistance to police in evaluating a situation. The use of video records as evidence and as a means of identification may also be a reason criminals may be less inclined to cause trouble.

 Having tangible evidence helps to reduce the time spend in the court because victims of the scene are not needed to give their statements.
