1 What was the kind of theory of emotion accepted until the mid 1980s (and promoted by Lazarus)? Briefly, give the gist of the meaning in several sentences.

Emotions came after conscious and unconscious thought processing and was added through the hippocampus. Lazarus believed that cognitive appraisal is a precondition to the emotional reaction. This means that before any emotional reaction, people need to have a clear judgment to one thing or another.

2 Provide a quotation from the article that summarizes the overall (non-technical) key idea of the new research of LeDoux and others?

"This, according to LeDoux, may explain why we are so inept at understanding where our emotions come from and how they work: "The cortical systems that try to do the understanding are only involved in the emotional process after the fact."

3 In your own words, what are the two routes of perceptual processing and how do they differ in terms of emotional processing? I am looking for a somewhat technical explanation of approx. 3 sentences.

The first route runs through the amygdala and makes bodies to act before the cognitive appraisal such as a knee kick. Another one is through the neocortex and sent to the amygdala adds the emotional processing after cognitive appraisal. In terms of emotional processing, the first route doesn't have much emotional processing, but the second one is almost based on the emotional processing.

4 Summarize, in your own words, the research findings attributed to John Bargh. 1-2 sentences.

Even we know that we have biases to objects, we still can't get rid the bias completely. Since the subliminal effect somehow would induce us to be affected unconsciously by biases, we still can't have a real fair judgment to anything.

5 What idea not discussed in your other answers, did you find of particular interest.

According to Benjamin Libet, the conscious will to act coming only after action is initiated, not before. This idea raises my interest. That means that any of our acts is ready before our real deep thinking. Therefore, our brains give our bodies directly order without cognitive thinking.
