As stated in, "Student's Encyclopedia of American Literary Characters" Cory's personal tragedy conveys a lesson perhaps even more relevant in the twenty-first century than it was in the late nineteenth. In addition, the craft with which Robinson delineated the character and the meaning that he compressed into sixteen lines merits close reading. Finally, the beauty of this poem is found in the fact that the motive to Richard's commitment to death will always remain a mystery. Thus, then studied in depth, the most interesting part is probably to imagine all the different interpretations that might lie under Cory's suicide. To conclude, this situational ironic story shows that appearances do not always reflect the true picture of man's inner being. Richard Cory is not a King or God; he is human being. Richard Cory does not have it all. He has more than others in most areas. However, he still lacks what they possess. His differences separate himself from this society. People think he has more than anyone, but they do not realize he does not have relations with other people. His life remained incomplete. Richard Cory is steered away from the society. By being an outcast, he cannot overcome his internal struggle and is forced to kill himself.
