C is for Creative and Nothing More

After reading a collective reading on "C is for Capitalism and Culture" from the book Days of War, Nights of Love by Crimethinc. I found the writers honest with their ideas, and somewhat overly enthusiastic. The writers have several ideas: that the capitalist system only works for the wealthy; that there is no equality within the current system and that the gift economy, which bases everything on a giving society, is the best way for our economy. In addition the writings exhibit condescending language towards the readers, [by calling the reader a sucker], [or sheep]. The writers encouraged you to think of how negative capitalism is, but do not provide any specific alternative ideas.

The article does provide the valid point of capitalism at any cost; but the article is still primarily entertainment. The article's addresses the topic of capitalism; however, the authors' ideas are overall unrealistic and their illustrations are confusing. Also the article miss represents authors, thus making their argument more like propaganda then a credible writing.

The writers' approach to issues of us against the big business man is commendable,

because of the idea that there is something wrong with the way capitalism is in today's

society. For example, on page 66 "what kinds of productivity does competition encourage?" It encourages material productivity alone-that is, profit at any expense." Therefore, we need to take a step back and reevaluate our ideas towards ethical, religious and political beliefs that impact our society. The writers' personal approach to the article takes on an "I can relate" approach and makes you want to take action.

The writers show no respect to the reader with their use of patronizing words. For example, the article calls the reader a "a poor sucker" (61), or "you fucking sheep" (copy write page). Where are the writers going with this? Do they really expect to be taken seriously using this type of vulgar language and thus disrespecting the reader? One can only laugh at the adolescent behavior of the writer or God forbid, writers; for a lack of a better word, with their entertaining shock value of the article.

Moreover, the article is not viable with its theme of only the rich get richer by any means, even if it is to take from the unfortunate. Then to replace this idea with a gift economy, that is based on giving rather than trading or the idea that our lives have been bought from us by capitalism. One needs to step back, take a deep breath and realize this will never come about; possibly in the ideal world, but were not living in an ideal world.

The article expresses creative thinking and displays random photos and images, which were shocking or confusing at times. Page 59 displayed a shocking picture of a skeleton in an aggressive stance holding a gun showing that capitalism is evil and ruthless, and on page 62 a confusing picture of a woman in bed looking at her watch,
