Business needs & Rules of Database Development

The popularity of database software and good design is constantly growing over traditional file processing, as businesses are in need of new ways to innovate data processing, productivity, sharing, querying, relationship, security, and web integration.

The implementation of a database system drastically reduces duplication of data and minimizes memory, hard disk space, and other resources usage, as information is stored in the database as a collection of data rather than separate files. Regardless of whatever the needs are, many companies usually implement a system in which data is available instantly and can be constantly modified to reflect up-to-the minute information. For example, a company that sells tangible or intangible assets can implement a database to conduct precise data inventory, recording, and tracking of their assets, as it processes incoming/outgoing orders, schedules deliveries, and ship out the merchandise to customers.

Additionally, in order for companies to successfully accomplish many of their different database tasks, it is important to consider and implement good database development techniques. These methods consist on improving data consistency, integrity, and accuracy, as primary goals to create a sound database system. Database design should be customized to meet business needs by using information that is relevant to the business. Also, database design should not be difficult to modify, as companies experience future growth. The database must be efficiently structured by precisely describing each object or item with unique values, distinct fields, and minimal redundancy. The database must provide accuracy by establishing data integrity at the table, field, and relationship levels. The database should allow for data to be update once in real-time to immediately reflect new changes made to any existing field or table without affecting other areas of the database and its design.

Thus, meeting business requirements and implementing good design methods will definitely assist a company in running smoothly because the database structure is easy to update, the desired data is modified from a single location, minimal resources are used to maintain and support the database, and data retrieval is faster and more precise, as tables and relationships are well constructed.
