The Realities of the Gulf War

This movie kicks off at the very end of the Gulf War while America is liberating Kuwait. While searching through people on the grounds of the war some men come across a map which they believe will lead them to a stash of gold hidden by Saddam Hussein. The only problem is that these three men want to find their treasure without having everyone find out. This could be a problem, and it turns out to be a huge problem.

Once they get to their (first) destination they find out soon enough that they have 'the wrong bunker'. Angered they leave and start to walk towards their Hum-V. On thw way out they stumble into chaos. Saddam's army men are having rocks thrown at them by civilians of the town. There is a man on top of a building screaming, "It is safe to come out the American's are here!" A milk truck was on its way into the town when Saddam's army men shoot it down. When they finally get to their truck, they try to leave but are overwhelmed by civilians pleading and begging for food and water. They start to pass out bagged meals and water. The three Americans start to get angry when they see water being ripped out of women's hands and meals being torn from small children by men.

This scene illustrates the brutality that existed during the Gulf War in times of need. It did not matter if you a women with a baby or a small child. Animal instincts take over pass a certain point of starvation, and that is what the people at this bunker were experiencing. They were so excited to see America soldiers because to them we were their saviors. If they only knew we weren't there to help them but to steal gold for them selves.

From this point on all they encounter is trouble. When stealing the gold they try to make good of their actions by attempting to save a town of people, but everything goes wrong. They get attacked and hunted down.

This movie was unlike any of the other movies we have watched up to this point in this class. This movie kept my attention the entire time I watched it. Besides the excessive violence used in this movie were no other draw backs that I observed. At some points the movies plot seemed to jump around too much from scene to scene. I like this movie and it gets across some of the realities that existed during the Gulf War.
