Personal Strengths and Weaknesses

This author once wrote, Ð''you are only as strong as your weaknesses, because strength is akin to weakness.' How to begin writing a paper about ones strengths and weaknesses? Invariably, listing out the assets and deficiencies would be the first step. Strengths include, but are not limited to; adaptability, effective communication and critical thinking. Weaknesses include, but are not limited to; lack of patience, amiableness and being obsessive. Further reading will provide explanation of the aforementioned advantages and disadvantages. Knowing and acknowledging a weakness better prepares one to improve upon that deficiency, thereby enabling them to emend their overall character.

Strengths

Being able to adapt to ones environment has been essential to survival since the days of the caveman. Counting adaptability as strength ensures that regardless of what is happening, a person will be able to make the necessary concessions to blend into their surroundings. Adaptability is a learned trait. Many people are unable to quickly change thought patterns and ideologies to match or mirror those of their neighbors. In a society that takes pride in frantic pacesetting, adaptability is a must.

Adaptability means little if a person is unable to effectively convey what they know to those with whom they interact. Having the means with which to say what is meant is a definite advantage. Fortunate are those that count effective communication as

a strength, such as this author. Through frequent trial and error, speaking is honed into the art of being heard and then further honed into the art of effective communication.

Lastly we come to the asset of critical thinking. Critical thinking is the mental process by which information is conceptualized, analyzed and evaluated to reach a conclusion or an answer. Clearly this talent is valuable in the professional world as well as in societal interactions.

Weaknesses

Despite the omnipotent view some of us may carry, we are innately burdened with weaknesses. Patience is a virtue or so goes the old adage. In a world centered on convenience and geared for speed, having to wait is a very unattractive option. The irony of a technology driven world is that we tend to have to wait longer for supposedly faster responses. Computers notwithstanding, machines are operated in large parts by people. This author has limited patience in dealing with people with a fixation for taking their leisure.
