Marsh

How do you go about analyzing client risk? Is it primarily a matter of looking at the financial statements?

How do you uncover hidden liabilities of the target company?

How exactly do you go about designing an insurance package, is it possible to sell insurance for any type of risk?

What are some of the most common risks you tend to advise clients on?

How does one go about quantifying a new insurance package? Coming up with the premium the client pays?

What would be the career path? Can the internship turn into a full-time career, and if not, what kind of opportunities would you say are available to interns.

What would my responsibilities be?

Why Marsh?

For me, not knowing exactly what area of finance I ultimately want to end up in, I don't think you can go wrong by sticking to the fundamentals, and in my mind Marsh presents exactly that opportunity because it would allow me to gain an in-depth understanding of risk, the different types of risk, and the role insurance plays in different transactions--I'm hoping the experience would help me build a stronger foundation in the basic elements of finance.

Insurance is an area of business that I haven't really been exposed to, and because its not something that I've come across in the classroom, I think its just one of those things that I'm not gonna truly understand unless I take a hands on approach and learn by doing as an intern for the PEMA team.

Three Weaknesses:

I'm very particular about the way I see things on a page, which stems from my writing background, so sometimes I'll be doing, for instance, a three page writeup for a project that should only take an hour, and it'll take longer because of the level of attention I give the wording.

I also consider myself more methodical, as opposed to a quick mental math person. I feel much more comfortable analyzing a situation in-depth as opposed to being in a situation that requires quick decision-making, for example, Trading.
