Vitamin C

To many of America’s population, vitamin c may just sound like oranges or pineapples. It does come from citrus fruits, but it is much more important than it may sound, especially to athletes. It is an essential vitamin to staying healthy and fighting off unwanted virus’. It is necessary to keep the immune system running properly and for connective tissue repair. It also helps build metabolism, which is highly important to endurance athletes. Vitamin C can assist in preventing heart attacks, strokes, and cancer later on in life.

The lack of vitamin c can result in illness and low energy. This happens because the immune system does not have the tolerance to withstand nearly any virus. In cases of vitamin c deficiency, Scurvy, victims can become depressed, or experience fatigue or connective tissue defects such as gingivitis, rashes, internal bleeding, or even impaired wound healing. The immune system relies on vitamin c to work through all the bodies ongoing stresses. All of these issues are caused by undernutrition, which may not be as prominent in first-world countries, but is a global problem.

To protect yourself from these symptoms, it is suggested to consume approximately 60 mg of vitamin c each day. Vitamin C is found most popularly in citrus fruits but is also in dark, leafy greens and some vegetables. This is the thesis.
