Teen Suicide

Code blue, code blue in room five...the gagging feeling is this first that is remembered when her eyes open. She reached up and touches her face and feels this tube coming out of her mouth. The nurse turns around and sees that she is starting to wake up. Then she walks over and sticks a needle in the IV bag hand beside the bed.....

This could be any teen in America on any give day. Is the rate of suicide higher in teenagers who have money or is it higher in teenagers who don't have money. Is the rate higher because of family or friends? Looking at the rate in which teen suicide is had risen over the past 20 plus years is alarming.

According to Lanny Bermam, Ph.D. the executive director of the American Association of Sociology teenage suicide has risen over 200 percent in the past 20 years.

First I will be talking about the rise of suicide among teenagers, second is the rate higher for suicide among richer teens than poorer ones and last how to look for the signs of suicide.

It has been said that over the past 20 plus years there has been a 200 percent rise in teenage suicide according to Lanny Bermam, Ph.D., who is the executive director of the American Association of Sociology. (http://www.menstuff.org/issues/byissue/darkness.html) Berman believes that mental disorder is prevalent in about 90 percent of all suicidal teens. Berman also talks about the signs to look for in a teen which might be linked to suicide. This will be use to support which things to look out for when determining whether a teens is depressed enough to try and kill them self.

Taking into consideration that Berman might be right about depression in teen there are a lot of factor that can lead to that depression. For teenagers school is the most important things in their life. This is where they start to form friends that they will have a lifetime. For some school can be the best thing in the world and for other it can be a safe haven from home and for other it could be a living hell.

If a teenager is having a hard time at home school could be the only place they can escape. School might be the only place they get a meal at and peace of mind from an abusive parent. This could be the one place where they could find someone to tell about their problems.

Teen suicide had become the third leading cause death in teens. As teens face a world that is way more advance then years ago they also face more adult situations in which they are having a hard time coping with. So for them the only logical way out is to take their own life because they don't think that there is no one to turn to. (http://kidshealth.org/teen/your_mind/mental_health/suicide.html).

Teen suicide has become growing problem; it is going to be hard to get accurate numbers on just how many suicides are due to depression. Or what is the cause of that depression. Because not all suicides are reported the numbers might not reflect what is true. Maybe the reason for the depression might play a bigger part in the suicide this alone will be hard to determine if the teen never talks to anyone or if no ones ever know what signs to look for to prevent the suicide.

Know that statistical information about suicide help to understand just how large the problem has grown. It is said that understanding is an important prevention in suicide. Teens need to know that they are not alone in how they feel not matter what they are going through. No matter who much parent try to watch for the signs that might tell them if their teen is depressed
