States Should Legalize Marriage for Gays and Lesbians

In the past, it was taboo to talk about gay and lesbian relationships. However, as the world change also people's opinion change. These days, people are openly talking about having physical relationship with the member of the same gender. Moreover, it is possible to marry the member of the same gender in some states. Despite this fact, majority of states still refuse to legalize homosexual and lesbian marriages because it is still disputable issue. On one side homosexual marriages should be legalized because every person should have the same rights; however, on the other hand there are traditional, religious, and societal arguments against legalization of marriages for gays and lesbians.

States should legalize marriages for gays and lesbians because every person should have the same rights. It means that homosexual people should also have the right to enjoy the benefits of marriage. First of all, it needs to be explained what is marriage. It is a relationship which is known and acceptable in almost every culture, country and religion. Marriage is a legal status, and partners who are married have rights, benefits but also responsibilities. However, because gays and lesbians marriages are not legalized, they can not have these benefits and rights. To have benefits and rights, like for instance marriage credits or shared responsibility for children, etc. Moreover, the fact that the homosexual marriages are banned violates the basic human right about equality. It harms this basic right because marriage is the right signed in the constitution and it should not be restricted only to the opposite sex couples. This kind of discrimination as any other discrimination can have fatal consequences. It can lead to depressions, to lose the sense of life, and can finish with some serious accident like attempt of suicide or even with the death. However, there are also many arguments against legalization of such kind of marriage. The first reason against homosexual marriages is traditional argument. In history there were not accepted homosexual marriages. It was even strictly prohibited to have some physical contact with a same gender person.
