Social Learning

Social learning theory concepts I noticed in johns class, was modeling, feedback, and vicarious reinforcement.

Mr. John is natural leader, his students look up to him in class and outside of class. Mr. John does have an obnoxious side; however it is not a distraction. His behavior is more of a motivator, making class fun. This type of modeling works well for the children of Mexico. Mr. John can relate to his students more easily because of his age.

He is only 26 years old, almost like an older brother to his students. The slight age difference makes Mr. Johns modeling very effective. Mr. Ware is a great model for his students; he is a great example of a model.

Vicarious reinforcement is observed, when students start their assignments. Mr. John often shadows his students, sometimes giving reinforcing comments. These comments spark a behavior change. Students see others doing well, and they want to be noticed for the same behavior. Mr. John uses this type of reinforcement to prolong, or promote a positive behavior. I have observed this phenomenon, regularly in Mr. Johns class, especially during independent work time.

During my observation, I observed feedback. I noticed during various activities, feedback was an effective motivator. Feedback leads to achievement of goals. For example, students were displaying some work in the nursing home. Mr. John gave the students feedback on their works, some of the feedback was positive. The positive feedback provided a social interaction that motivated his students to do their best.

This concludes my observation on social learning concepts I observed in Mr. John's class.
