Postmodernism

Postmodernism is in our every day lives and if we do not recognize it, then we are in more danger than we thought. Postmodernism is a way of philosophy, architecture, art, literature, and culture.

Postmodernism was based on many of the beliefs of Karl Marx. A believer in postmodernism, Jean Baudrillard, once said that postmodernism was a way to "bring Marx up to date". The religious belief of postmodernist is that they are atheist and believe that the idea of God is just too unbelievable. Postmodernism tried to be a big step from Marxism and to turn away from its violent ways, but instead they took most of marx's ideas. During the time of modernism Friedrich Nietzche stated that "God is dead; we have killed him." When Nietzsche said this he meant that the whole belief in God was dead which means that we as humans are the only higher source and our thoughts are the main source of power.

Unlike Christianity which has absolute truths, postmodernism has different, subjective truths. The great thinkers of Postmodernism, such as Jean-Francois Lyotard, challenge other people to be skeptical of broad statements like "God so loved the world" because they deny the existence of God and it seems virtually impossible to be able to do something to the whole entire world. Postmodernist have an idea to always be skeptical of every statement made. They are told to take everything that is said into thought and look at its probability and how realistic it is to their beliefs.

One of the first expressions of Postmodernism was through architecture. Postmodernist have built buildings to try and move on from modernism. They want new, witty buildings that show there are no end and no destination. Postmodernist make very peculiar things, such as steps leading to nothing, and that is showing that there is no destination and no future. Modern architecture was based on trying to reach perfection through their buildings and postmodern architects like to build buildings that are not perfect and are open to rejection and debate.

At the beginning of the 20th century art and literature were beginning to become postmodernized. Perhaps the most popular postmodern author was Lewis Carroll who wrote Alice in Wonderland and the tale of the Jaberwockey, which are both nonsense stories which challenges all ideas of God and existence of greater beings.
