Minerals

What are minerals and how do they differ from rocks?

What are the physical properties we focus on to identify different minerals? What are minerals classes based on? What is the dominate class of minerals? What is this class so important in geology? What is the difference between light and dark silicates?

Rock Cycle

What are the different parts? Know what processes occur to transform our rocks in either a new material or new rock. Be able to draw and label the rock cycle like we did in class.

Magma and Igneous Rocks

Difference between lava and magma and intrusive and extrusive?

What are the ways (3 ways) and places that magma forms?

What is magma composed of and what are the 4 types? What is the Bowen's reaction series and how does it work? Know how to read Figure 4.21 on page 123, Figure 4.4 on page 111, Figure 4.10 on page 115. How can magma differ? What do igneous rock textures tell us? Know about the textures we discussed in class. How do they differ and what are some of the examples of these?

What are intrusive igneous activities (or features) we talked about in class? Be able to name the 2 main types and sub-types.
