"How? My name represents a kind of spirit which passed from generations to generations, the perseverance. The character Jian may be found in many Chinese poems. It means protection against any hurts. And my surname Wang also carries the meaning of majesty and power. Actually, my parents named me with great care! "

Such stories always happen in the oral English class in China. When it comes to naming a newborn baby someone may ask whether it is definitively important for one to have a good name. Conventional wisdom says Yes. Name matters a great deal in one's life.

In a sense, a name has unimaginable effect on one's first impression whatever in China or in western countries. Social scientists say that what you are called can affect your life. Throughout history, names have not merely identified people but also described them. For better or worse, sometimes qualities may be suggested by your name and conveyed to other people before they even meet you. A name,as the symbol that represents one's identity, is very important in our life. As we all know, new couples have so many discussions on which name should be chosen to their babies.

In China, parents attach great importance to names. Because their children's names usually contain the characteristics that they want their children to possess. For example, many Chinese boys have the character Yong,which means brave. Furthermore, an eye-catching name can also create a good first impression and thus benefit one's career. This is why many stars choose to change their names once they become famous.

In China, parents seldom name their children Dalang if their surname is Wu. In our Chinese tradition culture, the name Wu Dalang always give a first impression to others that the person is nanoid and incompetent owing to the well-known historical baked-wheat cake salesman who was always bullied by his neighbour and did nothing instead of bearing. While a girl named Li Shishi may help to express their parents' sweet wishes that their daughter will have a flowery face. The beauty in the ancient China comes up to our mind when we first meet the name Li Shishi. These two names give us the imagination for the historical characters known to all of us. Also a man won't be named Ziteng following a surname Du. The name Du Ziteng pronouncing the same meaning as you have collywobbles in Chinese. In fact, the Chinese name Du Ziteng is an elegant name
