Operations Management is the management of systems or processes that create goods and/or provide services. OM oversees the very core of any business and organization. With such a huge impact on the company, OM can literally help make or break a company. There are many businesses out there that have exceptional OM teams and these are the companies that flourish. However, there are some that don't and these struggle from day to day which hurts the overall success of the company.

Operational Management means a great deal to their employees. As a matter of fact, operational management can help make an employee feel more secure with their future with the company. If the OM team is successful and helps bring a company business then all employees of that business will feel a sense of security and belonging.

OM also means a huge deal to society in general. OM is responsible for creating goods and services that society uses from day to day. Operations are a huge asset to both businesses and society.

Operations Management is a crucial key in the healthcare industry. There is no room for careless mistakes or overlooked options. In today's society there are countless hospitals, clinics, laboratories, and distributors to use. This is why OM plays a vital role in their companies overall success. Each individual organization needs to landmark their company on the map. If they fail to do this then they will most likely be one of the organizations that don't make it or find themselves in a constant struggle trying to keep up. OM can be responsible for acquiring new technology, location planning, facility planning, and improving the facilities current products and services.

An example of poor OM planning could be to put a high dollar hospital in a poor neighborhood. This could result in the hospital not making budget goals and giving the community a sour taste of what your company is about not by what the company actually is but what they perceive the company to be about. All of those problems can be avoided with proper planning and guidance of an OM leader who has the desire and ability to make great decisions and follow the plans through. In every case, the operations manager must coordinate the use of resources through the management process of planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling.
