Oj Simpson

Concerning the OJ Simpson case, I think everyone had a feeling he was guilty. It's a shame because of flaws in the collection of evidence, a seemingly obvious murderer got away with it. As I followed the trial, even my 7 year old mind knew that he was guilty. It wasn't until later that I found out why he was let off. I agree with James that there are other things that should be covered in the new but at the same time it's the public's attraction to the celebrity cases that generates so much media attention.

News stations always want to have the breaking news and the top stories. The want to keep people interested and have the most viewers. I don't think if the media did cover things like business corruption and those sorts of things while another channel had celebrity breaking news on it that the first channel would have many viewers. In a poll I found online (http://www.law.umkc.edu/faculty/projects/ftrials/Simpson/polls.html) 80% of people questioned watched the verdict. People are by nature interested in celebrities and when something like this happens it generates a lot of attention simply because its what the people want to see.

As for Simpson being guilty or not, I think we all know the truth in that case. In the same poll mentioned above 53% of those question disagreed with the verdict reached by the jury. 57% of people believed they jury reached a verdict too quickly. In a civil case after the trial, the jury found OJ to be guilty of both murders. Also after the trial defense attorneys were careful to say that "the jury did the right thing," not state he was innocent and no search thereafter was established to find the real killer.
