Rock music in the late 1980's and early 90's was very outlandish and mechanical sounding. A group called Nine Inch Nails took those characteristics and modified them to create a sensation of rock with a little pop mixed together. On October 9, 2005 I attended the Nine Inch Nails concert at the Quicken Loans Arena or better known as the "Q." There were many pivotal moments in the history of Rock; Nine Inch Nails presented a strong exemplar of Rock music with this performance nearly six years after the release of their last album.

Nine Inch Nails (NIN) is officially categorized as a group but in my opinion this is not accurate. Trent Reznor is the only official member of NIN, while he is always surrounded by a band composed of multiple instruments the other band members fluctuate frequently. Michael Trent Reznor was born in Mercer, Pennsylvania on May 17, 1965. When Trent was 5 years old, his parents divorced and he was raised entirely by his grandparents. At this time he began playing the piano and studying classical music. Later in his childhood he learned to play the tenor sax and tuba in his high school band. Reznor's post-high school experiences included a year of studying music at Allegheny College and then dropped out after a year to pursue music full time. In 1987, Reznor created Nine Inch Nails and began recording his compositions where he played all the instruments himself. He had hoped to just release a single on a small European label but when he sent demo tapes to approximately 10 American labels, every one offered him a record deal. From that point on, Trent Reznor became famous for the "group" called Nine Inch Nails.

Rock and roll is probably the most mysterious and sexy genre in the music world. Rock artists from Elvis Presley to Gene Simmons to Steven Tyler created a following that seemed to be extremely infectious and addictive. Rock music is loud and difficult for many people to listen to but just as many other things in life, you either love them or you hate them. The staple of rock and roll music has always been the guitar. While rock is many times surrounded by numerous instruments to accompany the lyrics, decades have shown that the most important ingredient is the guitar.
