As a college student, I agree with Miller's opinion about the fact that education should be learning itself rather than getting the grades and degrees required to achieve other goals. The hard part is not about getting this idea to students but rather to get them to change and adapt their views towards educations. Such task is indeed very difficult; however, if these students are greeted with real-life examples that support Miller's idea then things might just change.

Most students in this world have probably been taught by their parents that the only way to succeed is to get into a good university and find a high paying job. As a result of this, "students (or the student's parents) invests a lot of money, time and work in process; in return the education institution is expected to deliver the good." Such thinking has destroyed many families financially and relationship wise. Example would be bankruptcy and families splitting up due to unwanted results such as students failing to get into the good university. The key to a successful future for all students is "a degree that will provide entrйe to a high-paying, prestigious career" and once this fails, the students are left with nothing but depression.

It is true that modern days students focus only on their grade point average rather than what they are actually learning. Miller himself assured the students that "15 years from now you're not going to remember the names of most of the courses you took, much less what grades you got." As a result of wanting to maintain that perfect 4.0 grade point average, students are merely memorizing things that are thrown to them by teachers rather than putting these knowledge to work. Now days, the name Bill Gates should come as no surprise to anyone, but what is surprising to learn about him is that he did not graduate from college. In fact, he dropped out off one of the top ranking universities in the nation to pursue his life long goal. His company Microsoft is among the biggest corporation in the world. Sure he made it into one of the top ranking universities in the nation, but that is not what made him the man he is today. What really drove him to success is the fact that he is doing what he enjoys to do by utilizing the knowledge he had gain through out his educational career and working hard at the same time.
