Marijuana should be legalized in the United States. The number of people selling and trafficking marijuana in the United States is steadily increasing. More and more people in the United States are going to jail for drug related offenses. Marijuana is the most commonly used illicit drug. Marijuana is a green, brown, or gray mixture of dried, shredded leaves, stems, seeds, and flowers of the hemp plant or Cannabis sativa. Cannabis is an expression that refers to marijuana. If marijuana is legalized in the United States, there would be less people in jail for drug (marijuana) related offenses. The people who are already locked up because of these offenses will get another chance to be apart of society. There would be less unknown criminals in society who or actually using marijuana illegally. Because marijuana is an illegal drug, the people who are in possession of marijuana are automatically a criminal whether or not they have the intention to sell the drug to the general public or not. People my just want it for their personal use and no other. People have the choice of what they want to put inside their body . Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products are readily available to people who are of age and it is legal for them to possess it. These products (more so alcoholic beverages) in one way, shape or from impair the senses. Marijuana is no different. The government could tax marijuana just like they tax citizens on alcoholic and tobacco products. Instead of the government paying for organizations and campaigns trying to prevent the use of marijuana, which is the tax payers' money, the government can use the tax payers' money from taxing marijuana to use for healthcare and education. Today, the media is making a big deal about the use of marijuana, when this is not the biggest issue in today's society. Issues like rape, murder, and racial discrimination are much bigger than the use and possession of marijuana. If the media focused more on these issues rather than what society itself have control over, than maybe these crimes would happen less. People are going to use marijuana regardless of what the media says. For example, media says do not smoke because it will affect your health later in life, by causing lung cancer. Many people have seen these commercials a number times, a lot of people may quit but a lot of them will continue what they are accustomed to. The reason why the government
