Installing a DVD drive is a little tricky if you are a first time user. You probably will not even dare try to open your computer to install this drive, instead you will hand your computer over to best buy or any other computer service places. This tutorial is for the brave ones who are willing to learn how to install a DVD drive so lets get started.

When you are ready to begin installing your new DVD Drive, have plenty of room on your desk or table to work. Allow enough space to move around and to be able to move the system unit as well. Check to see if you have ample light. You may want to have a container to place small screws in. The system unit cover may have small screws and you don't want to lose them. After you have plenty of work space and ample lighting, prepare your mind as well. Make this an educational experience and just have fun

What you want to do first is turn off your computer and unplug all peripherals. Take notice of how you unplug or disconnect any devices it's important to remember this. After your computer is turned off slide or unscrew your computer cover. Place the panel is a safe place well out of your way. Also keep in mind before doing any work inside the system unit you must get rid of all the electrical static charge from your body. To do this you must touch any unpainted metal or doorknob.

Now that you have the computer cover off and your static is gone from your body it is time to work inside the computer. First you need to remove the new drive from its protective wrapping you may also take some time to read the manual before you get started. Once the Drive is out of the wrapping look at the back of the drive where you connect the wires to. You will come across the jumper settings make sure it is set to master. If your adding this drive as a second drive then you have to set it to another setting. The jumpers are easy to set you will need a small pair of tweezers so you can remember the small jumper to the correct position. Take note that most drives are factory set to master by default.

It is now time to get the drive into the computer. Locate the drive bay for the cdrom drive. In most cases, its at the top of the case. If you are removing another drive, slide it out partially, disconnect cables, and slide the drive out completely. Take note of the location of all connections. If you are installing a new drive the first time, use a small screwdriver to pop off the 5. 25 inch drive bay cover and bezel on the system unit case.
