Great Battles and Leaders of the Second World War

Just who is Winston Churchill? Sir Winston Churchill was one of the most influential leaders of the World War II time period. He was the prime minister of England, a Nobel Prize winner, and an amazing writer. He is a man of many gifts, however of all of his amazing talents, his greatest asset was his way of using words. With his words and writings he was able to influence the minds of many people, and was able to make history as a successful politician during some of the hardest times this world may ever see. World War II would not have been the same without Winston Churchill's inspirational speeches, bold diplomatic proposals, and cunning military schemes. Without him, the world that we know may have been very different.

Churchill started his journey up the political totem pole in the year 1900, when he gave up his career as a war correspondent. At that time, he was elected to be a Conservative of the House of Commons. In his quest for power, he joined the Liberals as an Under-Secretary of State. In 1923 he retired from a life of politics, and began writing a collection of books about World War I. However, in 1939, World War II broke out and Churchill was elected Prime Minister of England. It was here that he made his greatest impact on the world. At the end of the war he once again resigned from political office to become an author again, which is where he wrote Great Battles and Leaders of the Second World War.

Throughout Churchill's book, Hitler's apparent struggles for power are shown. Hitler becomes possessed by his greed for power, fame, and fortune. At the beginning of World War II, Hitler quickly destroys Poland, and captures France. His far superior technology and army along with his powerful friendship with the Russians, he could demolish any country he wishes. However, through his greedy nature, he doesn't attack England soon enough, because he instead wants to control Russia. His troops push back the Russians farther and farther, however, Hitler's rational thought is clouded by his greed. He leaves himself open for an attack. England and The United States create a plan to attack Hitler's battalion on the shores of Normandy, France.
