Georg was born on 27 August 1770 within Germany in Stuttgart. His father worked as a revenue collector within the country's civil service. He was brought up as a religious person under the protestant church. He went to school at Stuttgart gymnasium to study Roman and Greek culture. The father was called George Ludwig Hegel, while the mother was called Maria Magdalena Louisa. At the time of his teen, he had a girlfriend known as Christine Burkhardt but he proceeded to marry Marie Von Tucher. He joined the Latin school at the age of five. During his schooling period he was interested in being a writer while the father wanted him to be a priest. He took the theological examination in the year 1793 proceeding to study philosophy for a period of two years. Georg at the aged of 19 years experienced the French revolution that was fighting for the freedom of the people. He supported the sympathizers of reason and freedom together with Friedrich who was his friend. The support for the sympathizers was driven by desire of people to gain liberty.

Georg marriage to his wife Christiana led to birth of a son. The son was born in the year 1807 and was known as Georg Ludwig Friedrich. In the year 1812, he proceeded to take another wife by the name Maria Helena. Maria was a daughter of a senator and bore him two sons and a daughter who died during birth. The sons were known as Friedrich Wilhelm and Thomas Christian. In year 1788, he entered the Tubinger Stift School where he met friends who played a significant role in his philosophical development. One of the friend he met included Friedrich Winhelm Joseph and Holderlin. The three were involved in the trial of resisting enclosure within the seminary. The resistance was based on the belief that all human beings should be free. He developed the interest in popular philosophy that was supposed to help people acquire philosophical knowledge.

He spent the years between 1793-1796 as a theological tutor to the Bern family. This period allowed him compose his first writing referred to as "the life of Jesus". He also wrote another manuscript entitled the "Positivity of the Christian religion." He had a hard time with his boss and wished to leave after acquiring enough money in order to continue with his philosophical work. Lack of money made him not leave the tutoring work but the death of his father provided him with enough money to practice philosophy.
