Eric Cartman

I have chosen to do an analysis of a television character off of the popular show Southpark. The character is a nine year old boy named Eric Theodore Cartman. The show is focused mainly on the wild adventures of four nine year old children. The characters of this show include a rich Jewish child named Kyle, a poor quiet boy named Kenny, an honest kid named Stan, and then my character Cartman who is an overweight greedy child who manipulates people very well to get his way.

Eric Cartman’s personality is driven by his greed, self centeredness, and his prejudice. He believes that the world revolves around him and that he should get whatever he wants, no matter if it involves someone getting hurt or killed. Cartman’s behavior is determined on who he is dealing with. Cartman is a master manipulator and knows the strengths and weaknesses of the other characters. Cartman’s mother spoils him because she is dominated by Cartmans whining, bossiness and begging. Cartman tells his friends the truth normally, because they will believe the opposite of what he says. Cartman also changes his identity when dealing with strangers. Cartman’s behavior is fueled by other characters that seem to give him amusement at someone else’s expense. Cartman’s behavior is also fueled by Kenny whom he tries to impress by using profane language.

Eric Cartman is the anti-hero in most episodes because wants to ruin someone else’s goals which are normally respectable. This is also apparent by Cartman’s actions to fulfill his goals which are usually cruel and immoral. Cartman’s language ability comes into play because most everyone underestimates Cartman. Cartman can manipulate people into doing something he wants by persuading them. Cartman will convince someone by making it sound like its something that is important to them, or he will make something terrible sound like it will be positive. In one episode Cartman convinces everyone to rally together and march in celebration to the movie about Jesus in Passion of the Christ. Everyone believes they are marching to show Jesus that they are thankful for dying for their sins but Cartman has them resembling Nazi’s, and has them marching while he is dressed as Hitler. Cartman being the racist that he is hates Jews, his goal is to get rid of them and he almost succeeds. Cartman achieves his goals by manipulating the interests of other people. When it comes to observing other characters so that he may manipulate them, he seems to have already failed in the attempt. Cartman usually has many failed attempts before he actually makes a ludicrous plan in which almost always succeeds.

Cartman physically views himself differently than most everyone else, and tends to go by what his mother tells him. He believes that is weight is close to normal and that he can pass himself off as an adult which he obviously cannot. He becomes very angry and often goes home whenever some one refers to him being overweight, physically challenged, or injured.

Cartman’s perception of peoples differences is clear in many episodes where he believes that God put handicapped people on earth for Cartman’s
