Emma by Jane Austin

Emma is a novel of love, affection, and marriage. After reading it you will want to read another of Jane Austin's famous books. Emma is a story of a girl, Emma, and how she tries to direct the lives, and loves of all those she knows. It revolves around the life and loves of Emma Woodhouse, Mr. Knightley, Harriet Smith, Mr. Elton, Jane Fairfax, and Frank Churchill. Emma tries to play matchmaker, but everything changes, and she ends up falling in love, something she never thought or wanted to happen.

This book emphasizes the idea of love. Anyone can fall in love, and no matter how much you try to ignore it, it can happen to you. Love is a different case for everyone. Some people fall in love the first moment they meet someone. Maybe they were always in love and never realized it or wanted to accept the fact. "She was most sorrowfully indignant; ashamed of every sensation, but the one revealed to her- her affection for Mr. Knightley (Austen,423)." Emma was thinking and having a whole conversation in her head. She was never to marry so she could remain at home with her lonely father and she wanted it that way. She never realized it, until now, that she was in love. She somehow always knew that, but only wanted to accept that he was a close friend. By reading this quote, you can see that she believes and assures herself, that no matter what had happened, she had always loved Mr. Knightley. You could never notice that you've always been in love with someone, until it hits you in the face.

Most people associate love with marriage. If you love someone, you should marry him or her, right. When you are in love, you do not have to marry. What if they don't love you back. You can accept the fact and move on. Harriet was in love with Mr. Elton, but he wanted Emma, mostly for her wealth though. When you married someone back then you declared that you wanted to live the rest of your life with the person you loved. Some people marry just for stability and security, so they could live comfortably for the rest of their lives. Some people marry someone they do not love, and end up breaking up. You can associate love with marriage, but know that marriage is not the same as love.
