Ellen Foster

Ellen is a 12 year old girl, whose father mentally abuses Ellen and her mother. When Ellen was little, shoe would always think of ways to kill her dad. Although she never did kill him, he killed himself by drinking. Ellen moved from hoe to home until she finally settled down with the Foster family. In this book, the author proves that not every family is perfect.

When Ellen was younger, her father didn't work. He would sit around the house all day and drink. When Ellen was not at school, her father would make her do everything around the house. When her mother got home, he would make her make him dinner. Then after they ate, he would get in his truck and stay out all night. The next morning, Ellen would have to go out side and tell him to get of the ground before someone saw him.

Ellen wakes up one morning to find her parents at the table. Her mom's pill bottle was lying on the table empty. Her dad tells her to go put her mom in bed and don't worry about her. Instead Ellen tries to make her mom throw up the pills. Ellen's father threatens her and says, "If you don't go put your mom in bed, I will kill you both." This proves how Ellen dad mentally abuses them. So Ellen does what she is told. The following morning, she finds her mom dead and her dad gone.

After her mom's funeral, Ellen is forced to live with her dad. One night her dad comes with a bunch of friends. Ellen hides in her closet. She over hears one of the guys talking to her dad about her. He is saying, "you have to get them why'll they're still young. That's when they're the sweetest." After hearing that, Ellen decides to wait until they are past out on the floor then run. When she doesn't hear anything, she runs for the front door. A man is standing in the door ways. She hears a voice like her dads. The he grabs her arm. She says, "let me go or else ill tell every one what you did." He lets her go and she pushes him down and runs to her friend's house.

Ellen moves from family to family a lot. First she lives with her art teacher, then with her grandma, who hates her, and then with the Foster's. Her grandma hates her because she thinks that Ellen is just like her dad. She also hates her because she thinks Ellen killed her mom. Ellen ran to her friend Scarlet's house
