Sometimes when people's mind wanders freely they come across the question, "Is it possible that my life is just one big dream and that nothing really exists?" It is very possible that we are all living in one big dream. Everything around us could just be an idea in our mind, which makes existence seem real. I believe that this is quite a pointless question to ponder. Whether or not we are a dream and whether or not our existence is real does not matter. We are all living a very real life, breathing real air, eating real food, having real jobs. Why does it matter if it is a dream or not? I believe it is all very real and that there are ways to prove that other things exist in the universe besides yourself.

I feel that the number one way to prove existence is through our senses. I believe that if you can see it and touch it, then it is real. When thought through logically, no one person can deny that if something is unable to be felt, seen, smelled, or even heard, then there must be no existence of it. It is simply nothing. This may turn into an argument of faith and of God. I am not denying a God simply because He is unable to be seen or touched. God is in a different realm I believe. So, for now, I am concentrating on the existence of earthly life. Being said, I think it is absolutely true that something does exist if you can touch, hear, smell, or see it.

However, our senses may sometimes deceive us. One may simply argue that we exist without backing that up with any proof. Well I believe this to be a valid argument in that it is defended on the grounds that if we do not exist at some level, then there is no way we can know that we don't exist if we do not exist. This is obvious. How can one say we do not really exist and that we are all a dream when in order to have that idea of not existing, one must exist. This may sound some what redundant but I believe it really makes a lot of sense. In a nut shell, if we are able to think and to have ideas, then I believe that we exist. As quoted by a very famous philosopher Rene Descartes, "I think, therefore I am."

Another reason that backs up existence is faith alone. If one believes in the existence of a higher being, God, then that person must also believe in the existence of themselves and of others. If you believe in a God then you also believe in existence of other beings, because God would not be God if there were not any other
