The assassination of an Archduke was known to be the start of World War I . Seuss was only ten years of age. He did not take part in the fighting because he was too young, although many of his fellow towns people fought for our country.

In 1945, the first color television was introduced in the US. When this included coast-to-coast live television became possible. Thousands upgraded the old black and whites to color ones. Seuss' family purchased one also. It gave Seuss time to view what others did with their talent.

Sputnik was the first satellite launched in 1957 by the Soviet Union. The satellite was about the size of a basketball, weighed 183 pounds, and took 98 minutes to orbit from earth into space. This was a big deal for the whole world. Many people took interest in trying to make better satellite to top the Soviet Union's Sputnik.

Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss was born on March 2, 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts. He was the son of Theodor Robert and Henrietta Seuss Geisel. Theodor also known as Ted, spend most of his childhood in Springfield, until it came time to pick a college to further his education. Ted enrolled at Dartmouth College where he became the editor of the school "humor" magazine. Until it was shut down because of Ted and his friends misbehaving.

After successfully

graduating Dartmouth College in 1925 he decided to please his father. By continuing his education at Oxford University in England. He wanted to receive

his doctorite in literature. However after about a semester he realized that he hated it, so he dropped out. Ted figured he would take a trip around England instead, where he met his wife Helen Palmer which he wed in 1927.
