Death Penalty

"Life and death are one thread, the same line viewed from different sides" (Tzu). Whether we recognize it or not, most of us are concerned about the idea of death. Death remains an enormous mystery, a fundamental problem with which religion, philosophy and science have fought since the foundation of human history. Even though dying is a normal part of presence, people are used to view death as a terrifying opponent that can and should be beaten by modern medicine and technologies. The right to life and pride are the most authoritative of all human rights and this must be established by the state in everything that it does, including sentencing to death penalty. But what is death penalty? Death penalty, also known as capital punishment, is the process in which a person is put to death by the government as a punishment for committing a crime. The first death penalty was recorded in the eighteenth century B.C. It was induced in the code of King Hammurabi of Babylon who organized the punishment of death penalty for over 25 crimes. Various judicial authorities approved Hammurabi's law while few only rejected it (Introduction to the Death Penalty, 1999). Hanging was the first method to be used in death penalty. After that they added boiling, beheading, and burning to the options. Treason or marrying a Jew was enough to make one undergo death penalty. Why to end the life of someone for just a stupid reason? Where is humanity? A lot of people went through death penalty and were innocent. Their families lost them for no reason. Death penalty must end. This paper examines that there is no way to remedy the mistakes made, that death penalty is not a proven deterrent to upcoming murders, and that it is applied unfairly and should not be used.
