Week Two Paper

Data input is very important, will be reviewing the following types of data gathering

And explain what method of data input would be best for each of the following; printed questionnaires, telephone surveys, bank checks, retail tags, long documents.

Printed Questionnaires: computers have been always a great asset in today's modern world. A computer keyboard is one of the best known input devices in current use. (Statistics Canada, 2006).Batch keying use of a computer keyboard to enter data which is best used for large surveys. Tally charts can also be used implementing information gathered with either word processor or Microsoft excel. Computer technology plays a huge roll in accurately retrieving this type of data gathering.

Telephone surveys; can be interactively captured (Touch-tone) keypad .This method of data gathering is referred to as intelligent keying (Statistics Canada, 2006). The interviewer can manually input the answer choice into the computer system at the same time the interview is taking place using a system referred to as computer assisted-telephone interviewing (Statistics Canada , 2006). Also it depends on the type of telephone survey format software such as voice recognition can eliminate the need of a person and have everything automated by a computer. Stair & Reynolds (2006)

Bank Checks; using magnetic ink character recognition devices Stair & Reynolds (2006) the bank is able to process documents more quickly. "With MIRC, data is placed on the bottom of a check or other form using a special magnetic ink. Data printed with this ink using a special character set can be read by both people and computers" (Stair & Reynolds, 2006, p.59)

Retail Tags can be scanned by optical readers which are able to recognize alpha and numeric characters. These readers then transfer the scanned lines and translate the information gathered into a program (Statistics Canada, 2006). Retail tags using radio frequency identification chips Stair & Reynolds (2006) also provide more accuracy in tracking the inventory of items going out and coming in. Long documents could be scanned directly to the computer thus preventing inaccuracy in data which was gathered.

Methods of output for each of the following devices

Han Held Devices: best method of output for a hand held device would be its display monitor or LCD which stands for liquid crystal display Stair & Reynolds (2006). These devices are flat and not bulky which are convenient for a handheld device.

Color Photograph: best method of output would be using an organic light emitting diode Stair & Reynolds (2006) OLEDs can provide sharper and brighter colors (Stair & Reynolds 2006 pg.60) professional machines or laser printers would be effective at producing a good digital image and quality.

Resume: using software such as Microsoft word to edit and create a professional resume and using a laser printer in black and white would be the best output as you want to keep your resume organized and professional.

Memorandum best method of output would be by company email, the message would get to all employees, less paper used and delivered in a timely manner.

Statistical report and Company annual report best method of output would be by using a plotter. Plotters are designed to acetate blueprints schematics and drawings Stair & Reynolds (2006)
