Technology has helped to create a society that is ever more increasingly dependent

on technology. Well, before I start to scare everyone with talk of cyborgs and other half human and half machine people, let me explain a little about technology. Technology basically the ability to use tools and/or machines to increase productivity or quality. Society uses technology to control the world. Technology is growing and expanding at a rate that is extremely fast. Just think how far that telephones have come, from a big old turn style to Blue-Tooth technology. Every car that you pass these days has the driver talking on a cell phone. Fields like Medicine and communications have changed our cultures and our lifestyles. This is what Donna J. Haraway writes about in A Cyborg Manifesto. She writes that "A cyborg is a cybernetic organism, a hybrid of machine and organism " the author is not talking about the science fiction character but, more a the human race so dependent

on technology that it might as well be only half human. Technology is the driving force of the future; it changes all of our lives and re-shapes the future.

There are many different elements that create satisfaction in our everyday lives. I used the word create because technology does create things. These creations of technology can change how safe, healthy and happy people feel. Throughout history, people have looked for better ways to meet their needs and to satisfy their expectations. Technology has changed/simplified the way people feed, clothe and shelter them. Technology has also changed other aspects of everyday life, such as health care, education, job satisfaction, and leisure time activities.

People have used technology since they first chipped stone blades to improve their hunting. Some people call this current age the "Technological Age" because of society's dependence on technology. For the first time in human history, all the goods and services people use, depend on technology. Technology is usually the main factor in the economic growth of a society.

Technology increases productivity and helps countries compete with other countries in selling/manufacturing goods and services. Some say that without technological improvements, the economy would grow slowly or not at all. Society could remain the same for years and this has been proven many times; such as the Middle East and other third world countries.

One of the most important decisions we make concerns the way we move ourselves, and our possessions. Our system of transportation greatly affects how we use energy; develop technology, the economy and environment, and our relationships. Cars have made a big difference in the way communities are designed. They also are responsible for more than half the airborne pollution in the world today.
